Birthday, Out and about

Birthday Shindig!

Hi there, in my last post I mentioned the big birthday party,  and on Saturday 24th October we held mine and my husbands joint 40th birthday party and the best night of our lives.

As Jason’s birthday is 23rd September and mine 23rd November, we decided to hold a joint party between the two which fell on the 24th October. The venue was The Doghouse Bar near St Andrews Hall in Norwich, which is a really great pub and all the staff are so helpful and friendly so it was a no brainer to choose it and get it booked. There is a private room upstairs called The Kennel which has its own bar and is used for private parties which looks straight on to St Andrews Hall, so it’s nice and central in the city, a huge car park round the corner and an attractive part of Norwich to spend the evening.

We had decided to stay overnight in the city so we could both partake in some drinkies without worrying about getting a taxi home. Having looked at various hotels within walking distance in the city, we ended up booking St Giles House Hotel which is a beautiful boutique hotel where our friends held their wedding reception. Superb quality rooms in a historic old building which used to be a Post Office. I had thought it would be too expensive to stay there as its one of the nicest hotels I the city, but it it was only £10 more than Travelodge so it wasn’t a difficult decision to make. Check in was at 2pm and I arrived shortly after as Jason had to work and I wanted to get there in good time to give me time to set up and get ready. I wasn’t expecting the room to be as nice as it was but it was just stunning! There was a King size bed, a massive bathroom complete with roll top bath, Elemis bath products, mini bar, it just made the evening that little bit more special to have a bit of luxury to go back to.

Next job was to decorate The Kennel and Jason and I had taken copies of loads of our childhood photos so we could dress the room up a bit and give people a bit of a laugh. I wasn’t going to go overboard on decs as I didn’t want stuff getting in the way and we thought the photos were a cute idea along with huge 4 and 0 balloons and one of our friends bought a couple of extra balloons along too which was sweet of him.

We had booked a DJ as neither of us really wanted to take responsibility for the music so I had emailed a massive list of song requests to Craig and he did a fantastic job, adding in some extras and taking out some that wouldn’t really have worked. Between Jason and I, I think one or both of us was on the dance floor the whole night, I can honestly say I have never danced so much in my entire life. My feet and legs suffered the next day I can tell you! It was just the BEST night, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and J and I had an absolute ball, pretty tipsy but not hammered and we had the best group of friends there, everyone mixed really well and I wouldn’t have changed a thing. We both felt very humbled to be surrounded by 40 such amazing people who helped make our party simply the most fun night we have ever had!
